How has Electrolysis changed through the years.
June 29, 2016Why shouldn’t one use temporary methods of hair removal
September 14, 2016Fact: Did you know that as much as 90 percent of UV rays pass through clouds? UV rays can also reflect off snow, ice, sand, water and other reflective surfaces, burning your skin as severely as direct sunlight.Using sunscreen is therefore extremely important and year around. As the ozone layer is depleting, you need more protection and its important for all skin types even for those that don’t burn easily. Not only is the UV radiation the most common cause of facial aging but also 90% of skin cancers are caused by exposure to the sun.
Applying sunscreen regularly can protect you from more than sunburn. It can also:
-keep your skin tone even
-slow down development of wrinkles and leathery skin
– set an example and teach your kids the importance of wearing sunscreen regularly.
A sunscreen that has a higher SPF rating only provides a minimal amount of increased protection than that of a lower SPF rating. It is best to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. It is also important to choose a sunscreen that contains vitamins such as vitamin E and C. Vitamin E can protect against UV- induced DNA damage and vitamin C helps protect the skin from sunburn.
Keep in mind a few tips while using sunscreen:
*anything greater that SPF 50 provides almost the same protection, ex SPF 50 blocks
96 % of UV rays, SPF 100 blocks 98%of UV rays.
*reapply every two hours, and don’t wait until you are in the sun to do it.
*moisturizers and foundations with sunscreen do not work the same as sunscreen- its ok if you walk from your car to your house, but not if you will be in the sun
*cover your whole body- don’t forget your lips and ears, apply a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
*it’s not a free pass to suntan all day.
*check its expiration date – a sunscreen without an expiration date has a shelf life of 3 years but shorter if its exposed to high temperatures.
